Meina Yu
Associate professor of piano

Yu Meina is a distinguished pianist, chamber musician and educator whose artistic career connects the musical traditions of China and Europe. She is Associate Professor of Piano and a supervisor of master’s students at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing. She also serves as an invited expert in arts education and as a guest lecturer at several educational institutions in China. Yu Meina completed an important part of her advanced artistic training in Germany. She studied in the piano solo performance programme at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, one of the highest levels of professional artistic training within the German conservatoire system. She also completed advanced studies in piano performance, piano chamber music and vocal accompaniment at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. As a soloist and chamber musician, Yu Meina has performed extensively in China and Europe. Since 2004, she has appeared with the Mélange Trio as a guest at the Schumann Festival. Her artistic partners have included renowned musicians and conductors from China, Germany, France, Hungary and Hong Kong. In 2010, she co-founded the professional Yu Piano Duo with pianist Fu Hong. The ensemble has distinguished itself through its commitment to Chinese works for two pianos. Yu Meina has also played an important role in developing piano ensemble and Chinese piano chamber music education at the China Conservatory of Music. Her artistic activities encompass concerts, recordings, publications and interdisciplinary stage productions. Her projects include an album of Chinese works for two pianos, the publication “Selected Contemporary Chinese Works for Two Pianos” and the multimedia music-theatre production “Dancing Bach.” Yu Meina received the Best Performance Award at the “Voice of China” competition and was selected for Beijing’s Young Talents Programme. She has also been recognised by the China Conservatory of Music for her outstanding contribution to education. Many of her students have won prizes at national and international competitions and continued their studies at prestigious music institutions. With technical brilliance, musical depth and exceptional sensitivity to chamber music, Yu Meina is dedicated to connecting people and cultures through music.
